Monson Savings Bank Donates $1,000 to Support Springfield Cardinals at USA High School National Hockey Tournament

L to R: Dan Moriarty, Monson Savings Bank President & CEO; Springfield Cardinals Hockey Team players Jacob Iby; Evan Pahneuf; Brandon Spaulding; Stephan Rougeot; and Michael Rouette, Monson Savings Bank EVP and Chief Operating Officer, met at the Monson Savings Bank’s Wilbraham Branch location to present a $1,000 donation to the Springfield Cardinals Hockey Team.

Monson Savings Bank President and CEO Dan Moriarty along with EVP and Chief Operating Officer Michael Rouette recently gathered with players of the Springfield Cardinals Hockey Team at Monson Savings Bank’s Wilbraham Branch. The two Bank leaders presented the players with a $1,000 donation supporting them as they travel to Omaha, Nebraska for the U.S.A. Hockey’s High School National Tournament from April 15th to the 19th. While at the branch, the entire group had some fun celebrating the team’s upcoming trip and talking about the team’s accomplishments.

The Division 1 high school hockey team recently won the “Final Four” tournament, which was organized by Hockey Night in Boston. By doing this, they earned themselves a spot in the esteemed U.S.A. Hockey’s High School National Tournament. The Cardinals are the first Western Massachusetts high school hockey team to be invited to this tournament.

The Cardinals have had many notable accomplishments in the past few seasons. They had been the Division 1 Super 8 runner ups for two seasons before being named the Super 8 co-champions last season. This season the team went undefeated, 13-0, and finished the season number one in the state. This is the first time in the Springfield Cardinal’s history that the team has gone undefeated for an entire season.

“We are very happy to help support the Springfield Cardinals’ trip to Omaha for the National Tournament and we are ready to cheer them on,” said Dan Moriarty, President and CEO. “It has been a difficult year for high school sports teams. Some haven’t even been able to play because of the pandemic, so we are very excited to see a local team compete in a national championship.”

Michael Rouette and Dan Moriarty both grew up locally in Monson, attending Monson High School and playing on sports teams together as young athletes. They have a passion for supporting local youth sports, a connection to the community, and will be some of the biggest fans supporting the team.

“As a former high school athlete, I can understand how exciting this is for the boys,” said Michael Rouette, Chief Operating Officer. “To be the first Western Massachusetts high school hockey team to be invited to this particular tournament is a very remarkable accomplishment and the team should be extremely proud of themselves. We certainly are proud of them!”
