A spoof phone call, or caller ID spoofing, happens when a scammer calls and manipulates the incoming caller ID to look like the phone call is coming from someone you know and trust, like your local community bank. This can also happen with text messages. Scammers do this to earn your trust and trick you into sharing your personal information or sending them money.
