Reduce Unwanted Contact: Unsolicited Calls, Mail, & Emails

Unwanted phone calls, junk mail, and spam emails are more than just a nuisance—they can be a gateway for fraud and identity theft. At Monson Savings Bank, we’re committed to helping you protect your personal information and reduce your exposure to these risks. Below are practical steps you can take to limit unsolicited communications and safeguard your privacy.

Reduce Unwanted Phone Calls

  • Register with the National Do Not Call Registry
Visit www.donotcall.gov/ or call 1-888-382-1222 to add your number to the registry. This helps reduce telemarketing calls from legitimate companies.
  • Don’t Engage with Robocalls
If you receive a robocall, hang up immediately. Pressing numbers—even to opt out—can confirm your number is active and lead to more calls.

  • Use Call-Blocking Tools
Many phone carriers and third-party apps offer features to block or filter spam calls. Check with your provider for available options.

Cut Down on Junk Mail

  • Opt Out of Pre-Screened Credit and Insurance Offers
Visit OptOutPrescreen.com or call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT (1-888-567-8688) to stop receiving these types of offers for five years or permanently.

  • Register with the Direct Marketing Association (DMA)
The DMA’s Mail Preference Service at dmachoice.org allows you to opt out of receiving unsolicited commercial mail (and email) from many national companies.

  • Be Mindful When Sharing Your Address
Avoid providing your mailing address unless necessary, especially when entering sweepstakes or signing up for promotional offers.

Minimize Spam Emails

  • Unsubscribe from Unwanted Emails
Use the unsubscribe link typically found at the bottom of marketing emails to stop future messages.

  • Use Email Filters
Set up filters in your email account to automatically sort or block spam messages.

  • Avoid Clicking Suspicious Links
Be cautious with emails from unknown senders. Don’t click on links or download attachments unless you’re sure they’re safe.

Stay Informed and Vigilant
