Monson Savings Bank Presents $1,750 Donation to Rick's Place, Helping to Provide Support to Grieving Children and Families

Monson Savings Bank donated $1,750 to Rick’s Place, an organization that supports grieving children and their families during some of the toughest times. In fact, recently the organization has seen an increased need for the grieving support services due to the tragic loss of life experienced as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. Dan Moriarty, Monson Savings Bank President and future CEO along with Michael Rouette, EVP and Chief Operating Officer, presented the donation to Bill Scatolini, Board President of Rick’s Place, at the 85 Post Office Park, Wilbraham location.

“Rick’s Place provides vital services and resources to children and families of the greater Springfield area, giving them access to free grief support following loss of a loved one,” said Dan Moriarty, President and future CEO. “We are pleased to contribute this donation to Rick’s Place to help continue the important services they provide and support our community members in need.”

Rick’s Place, a non-profit providing grief support to grieving children and their families, was founded in 2007 as a new initiative of the Rick Thorpe Memorial Fund. The site location was opened to honor the memory of Rick Thorpe, a young father and Wilbraham, Massachusetts native who died in the World Trade Center attacks on 9/11. Rick’s Place supports children, teens, age 5-18 years, and their families after a loved one has died. Through facilitated free peer support groups, Rick’s Place offers grieving children and their caregivers a safe place to remember their loved ones, honor their memories, and avoid the sense of isolation that such a loss can produce. “We are tremendously grateful for this donation Monson Savings Bank has made to Rick’s Place,” said Bill Scatolini, Board President Rick’s Place. “Right now, there are many children and families struggling with loss, whether it be from the pandemic or otherwise. Our free services allow children and families to experience their grief in a safe environment with others who have also experienced loss. Together, they are able to feel less alone and can begin to heal.”
