Monson Savings Bank Supports Silver Street Chapel

L to R: Silver Street Chapel supporter Davis Johnson, President of Silver Street Chapel Laura Mushenko, Treasurer of Silver Street Chapel Suzanne Kelley, and Monson Savings Bank EVP & COO Michael Rouette.

Both Monson Savings Bank and Monson’s Silver Street Chapel have deep roots in the Western Massachusetts Town of Monson where they were both founded. Monson Savings Bank has proudly supported the Town of Monson and its surrounding communities for more than 150 years. Likewise, the Silver Street Chapel in Monson has served as a hub for the community members of Monson for 125 years.

Monson Savings Bank recently extended a helping hand to the Silver Street Chapel. The Chapel, which was built in 1898 by local community members living in the Silver Street neighborhood, has asked for help with funding for maintenance and preservation of the building. The local community bank was happy to contribute $2,000 to the Chapel to help assist in maintenance and preservation costs.

“On behalf of everyone who enjoys the Silver Street Chapel, thank you to our friends at Monson Savings Bank for your generous contribution!” said Laura Mushenko, President of the Silver Street Chapel. “The Chapel is supported mainly through donations from residents each year. Silver Street Chapel could not sustain itself without the help of partners, like Monson Savings Bank.”

Presently, the Silver Street Chapel hosts weekly yoga classes as well as a few First Church services during the year, like Christmas Caroling in December. The Chapel is also available for rent for weddings and vow renewals. Donations are still being accepted to help support the Silver Street Chapel. If you are interested in supporting this historic treasure, checks made out to “Silver Street Chapel” can be mailed to PO Box 20, Monson, MA 01057. “As a community-focused bank, we are proud to support the local historic sites in the town where the Bank itself laid its roots,” said Michael Rouette, Monson Savings Bank EVP & COO. “As a Monson native, I am also personally proud to see the Chapel still thriving. It was the location of my father’s wedding and I have many fond memories of it. Thank you for the supporters of the Chapel that keep it alive and well!”
